Exceptional processing at LGg – La Genovese gomme: Aquatechnik at the heart of innovation

In the field of innovation and infrastructure improvement, our company’s systems played a key role in the recent work at LGg – La Genovese gomme, located in Elmas, Cagliari.

In cooperation with Ciro Nugnes and the co-ordination of Gabriele Congiu, Aquatechnik supplied FIBER-COND SDR 11 pipes for the heating and cooling lines of a new plant that replaced a worn out metal one.

It is important to mention the contribution of Termosa, which provided the necessary materials and fittings for the project.

The development of a new heating and cooling plant

LGg – Genovese gomme has embarked on an ambitious project to replace the old heating and cooling system made of metal material, which is now worn out and shows significant signs of degradation. In order to ensure a modern and durable system, the company decided to collaborate with industry experts who, together, identified Aquatechnik as the ideal partner for the supply of the necessary piping. Technical advice, assistance during all phases of the project, precise and timely delivery, and, to complete, state-of-the-art installation with technologically advanced and innovative products that ensure efficiency and durability.

The advantages of Aquatechnik Fiber-Reinforced piping

For the project objectives, Faser FIBER-COND SDR 11 piping proved ideal, thanks to its performance advantages, versatility and flexibility even in installation. Their structure in the latest generation of polymeric material gives a remarkable resistance to pressure and thermal stress, ensuring reliable operation over time. Thanks to Aquatechnik’s research, the Faser multi-layer polypropylene pipe is at the top of the hydraulic sector. It is the WOR (White Oxidation Resistance) technology that makes the difference: a solution developed by our Research Center in collaboration with leading companies in the production of additives for polymer systems that gives excellent performance to the already high-performance PP-R CT base.

Faser FIBER-COND pipes consist of several layers:

  • PP-RCT WOR, random copolymer polypropylene with modified crystallinity, for the inner surface, with high chemical and oxidant resistance. Laboratory tests show that WOR technology increases resistance to free chlorine, chloramines, chlorine dioxide and other oxidizing agents usually used in water sanitization by up to 40 times compared with normal PP-R. The additive package contributes to the stabilization of the polymer material, which also exponentially improves resistance to high temperatures and pressures. The combination of PP-RCT + WOR guarantees, compared to a single-layer pipe of the same thickness, a performance increase from 20% (use with cold water) to 50% (use with hot water) under the same conditions.
  • PP-RF, fiber-reinforced copolymer polypropylene, for the middle layer, to ensure a significant reduction in elongation due to thermal expansion. In fact, fiber-reinforced pipes in the Faser range have a linear expansion reduced by 70% compared to unfilled pipes, a fact that facilitates design and reduces bracketing in installation.
  • PP-R 80 Super, to make the outer layer and give resilience and ductility to the pipe.

Installation is also facilitated by another feature of polypropylene pipes: their low weight compared to ferrous materials, which facilitates handling and transport to the construction site for cost and time benefits. The advantages in terms of energy are also significant when considering the reduction of pressure drops, thanks to the elimination of the risk of sedimentation, which increases the flow speed and ensures greater hygiene.

Continuous innovation through collaboration

LGg, a historical company founded in 1927, is a high national example of renewal and continuous growth, in which our company philosophy is fully reflected. It is precisely the collaboration with partners founded on these values that opens up the possibility for us to realize state-of-the-art systems with thermoplastic pipes that exceed the customer’s expectations. The use of FIBER-COND SDR 11 piping has resulted in an efficient, durable and resistant system. Aquatechnik confirms itself as a reliable and competent partner, offering tailor-made solutions and high-level technical support for all kinds of projects, from civil to industrial.
