Plumbing innovation in apartment buildings: the successful project by F.R. Impianti with Aquatechnik systems
The choice of materials and technologies plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency, durability and safety of plumbing and heating systems. A striking example of this was the project carried out by Federico Raciti of F.R. Impianti in two residential complexes, which saw the replacement of old systems with advanced solutions from Aquatechnik. This case study is not just a technical description but a story of how innovation can solve complex problems and improve the quality of life of residents.
The project: challenges and objectives for residential systems
The project involved two residential buildings with a total of 240 apartments. The main objective was to replace obsolete suction systems and autoclave delivery manifolds in order to improve energy efficiency and reduce pressure drops. There were many challenges to overcome:
- Management of limited installation space. The existing pipes were integrated into structures with little space available for handling materials.
- Need to minimize system downtime to ensure continuity of water service to users in the apartments.
- Compatibility with existing infrastructure. Integration was required without compromising structural stability.
Materials and technologies used: the role of polypropylene
Polypropylene (PP-R and PP-RCT) is one of the best performing materials for modern plant engineering applications. Used in Aquatechnik systems, it offers significant advantages.
- Chemical and mechanical resistance: it reduces the risk of corrosion and guarantees solidity in humid environments subject to temperature variations.
- Long service life: even under high pressure and temperature conditions.
- Ease of processing: reduces installation time, which is essential for minimizing disruption to residents.
- Low thermal conductivity: reduces energy loss, improving the overall efficiency of the systems.
Faser Fiber-COND: reliability and resistance for critical systems
Faser Fiber-COND SDR 11 pipes in diameters of 125, 160 and 200 mm were used for the new suction systems and delivery manifolds. Made of PP-RCT WOR (White Oxidation Resistance), this fiber-reinforced polypropylene system made it possible to:
- Better manage high pressures and temperatures—up to 95°—without the risk of deformation or breakage.
- Improve hydraulic efficiency. The low internal roughness (0.07 mm) reduces pressure losses, promoting optimal flow.
- Reduce the need for expansion joints, thanks to low thermal expansion.
- Limit maintenance requirements, with maximum resistance to corrosion and chemicals present in water. The range of fiber-reinforced multilayer pipes with WOR Aquatechnik technology guarantees up to 40 times greater resistance to oxidizing agents than normal PP-R.
Fusio-technik: versatility and safety for every application
The Fusio-technik system has played a fundamental role thanks to its ability to:
- Guarantee hermetically sealed joints, eliminating the risk of leaks at critical points. Fittings and pipes are assembled using polyfusion to create a monolithic structure that is more stable and resistant.
- Withstand thermal cycles and variable pressures, maintaining structural integrity even after years of use.
- Facilitate installation in confined spaces, a determining factor in condominium environments. Furthermore, polypropylene polyfusion does not require open flames or adhesives, allowing for safe working conditions, even in confined spaces.

Safety fittings: innovation in connections for multilayer systems
Safety multilayer fittings, used for water supply and sanitary systems and water-based heating/air conditioning systems offer:
- Reliable connections, minimizing the risk of leaks thanks to the patented PPS system. The unique geometry of the full-bore multilayer fitting eliminates the disadvantages of traditional fittings, ensuring a 40% increase in flow rate.
- Adaptability to different diameters, from 16 to 90 mm, simplifying design and installation.
- Reduction in maintenance times, with solutions that are easy to inspect and replace, thanks to the anti-slip cap that can be removed with the special wrench for quick and easy fitting recovery.
Integration of Safety and Fusio-technik systems: synergy for maximum efficiency
The integration of Safety and Fusio-technik systems is not just a technical choice, but a strategy to:
- Optimize system management, combining the strength of PP-R with the flexibility of the Safety fitting system.
- Reduce long-term management costs, thanks to materials that require less maintenance.
- Improve system safety by reducing the risk of unexpected failures.
The special transition fittings of the Safety and Fusio-technik systems allow connections to be made between the systems in our range for more efficient and versatile solutions. Guaranteed 360° compatibility with threaded joints, collar flanges, pipe sockets, branches, couplings, valves and manifolds.
Benefits achieved: concrete innovation results for plant engineering
Thanks to the use of Aquatechnik systems, the project has led to concrete results:
- Greater energy efficiency, with a 20% reduction in pressure losses and a significant improvement in water pressure on upper floors.
- Reduced maintenance costs. Fewer corrective interventions thanks to the resistance of the materials.
- Resident satisfaction, with downtime minimized and no prolonged inconvenience during construction.
For designers and installers the project, masterfully executed by F.R. Impianti, is a concrete example of how the adoption of advanced technologies can make a difference, not only in terms of operational efficiency but also in terms of long-term sustainability and reliability.
