Optimized hydronic systems with Safety and Multi-calor multilayer piping: the combination of efficiency and savings in Australia

For hydronic heating and cooling systems, efficiency and reliability are crucial. With the increasing demand for energy-saving solutions, it is imperative that installers choose materials and components that optimize flow rates and minimize pressure drops. One of the most advanced solutions in this field is our multilayer Safety system, which combines full flow fittings and multilayer Multi-calor piping. An innovation that started in Magnago, in the province of Milan, and went all the way to Australia with the installation by Shannon Petty of GV Hydronic Heating in Victoria, via our trusted partner Aquatechnik Australia.

Project challenges: overcoming the problems of traditional systems

In hydronic system installations, one of the biggest difficulties has always been the friction caused by restrictions at the junction points between fittings and pipes. Traditional press fittings actually create bottlenecks in the flow, resulting in inefficiencies, especially when combined with low-power circulation pumps. This results in wasted energy and reduced system performance.

As installers know very well, maintaining an optimal flow rate is critical, as is balancing system pressure, maximizing efficiency, and ensuring system longevity.

The introduction of Safety and pre-insulated Multi-calor piping has responded to these needs, revolutionizing the way hydronic systems are designed and installed.

Materials used: the innovation of advanced engineering

Safety and Multi-Calor are designed to meet the technical demands of modern hydronic and plumbing systems with advanced materials and innovative design.

Safety multilayer fittings, made of PPS (polyphenylene sulphide), offer excellent resistance to high temperatures and pressure, ensuring long-term performance in both heating and cooling systems. They are resistant to corrosion, fouling and chemicals, making them ideal for even the harshest environments. In addition, the fitting’s unique geometry allows full flow of fluids, minimizing internal friction and pressure drop.

A particularly advantageous design when combined with low-power circulation pumps, as it increases flow rate, reduces energy consumption and increases overall system efficiency.

Multi-calor is a multilayer pipe made of PE-X/Al/PE-X, a combination of cross-linked polyethylene and aluminium that offers flexibility, high mechanical and thermal resistance. The aluminium layer acts as a complete barrier against oxygen and light, preventing internal corrosion and algae growth. A feature that significantly extends the life of the system and improves the reliability of the installation.

Multi-calor pre-insulated version is designed to maintain temperature control while minimizing heat loss. Ideal piping for installations requiring high insulation performance, such as heating and cooling systems.

In both standard and insulated versions, Multi-calor pipes offer superior flow capacity due to their low surface roughness (0.007 mm), ensuring minimal friction even at low pump speeds.

Installer’s word: a revolution for hydronic systems

To better describe the features of the Safety system combined with multilayer piping, there is nothing better than to listen to installers who have experienced first-hand the benefits of these Aquatechnik solutions.

Shannon Petty of GV Hydronic Heating, our customer in Australia, expressed extreme satisfaction with the materials used:

A hydronic system is extremely efficient when it is installed correctly, from start to finish. Press fittings have been a problem for many years. We use low-power circulation pumps that consume only 75W at maximum speed; therefore, internal friction becomes an important factor. I measured the internal diameter of all the fittings we have been using for the last 20 years and compared them to the new full flow system, Safety from Aquatechnik, and the latter represents a real revolution in terms of flow rate, pressure drop reduction and energy savings”.

A statement that highlights the transformative impact of the Safety system and Multi-calor piping on the installer’s ability to optimize system efficiency. By reducing internal friction and pressure drops, these systems help installers provide their customers with lower energy costs and more reliable performance.

Energy saving and efficiency: a step towards sustainability

Underlying these innovations is Aquatechnik’s entire focus on sustainability. By maximizing flow rates and reducing energy consumption, Safety and Multi-calor are the perfect answer to the search for energy-efficient solutions that are increasingly in demand. Reduced pressure drops, combined with the ability to operate perfectly with low power circulation pumps, mean that less energy must be used to maintain optimal system performance.

In addition, the superior insulation provided by Multi-calor Isoline and Isoline-plus piping helps maintain consistent temperatures within the system, reducing the need for constant adjustments and bringing additional energy savings. A benefit that for homeowners and businesses means lower bills and less environmental impact.

Versatility and applications: perfect systems for a wide range of projects

Versatility is another strength of Aquatechnik Multi-calor and Safety solutions. Ideal for a wide range of applications, including residential, commercial and industrial hydronic heating and cooling systems, they are the perfect combination of durability and performance.

In the Australian project, diameters from 16 to 32 mm were used, but fittings and piping are available in a wide diameter range to meet a variety of application needs.

Bare Multi-calor pipes in bars and associated Safety-plus pipe fittings range from 14 to 90 mm in diameter while Multi-calor versions in coils go up to 32 mm in diameter; also available with polyethylene foam lining in different thicknesses and with different degrees of thermal conductivity (Isoline and Isoline-plus versions).

A revolution in hydronic systems design

The project in Australia demonstrated how Safety and Multi-calor represent an important step forward in the world of hydronic heating and cooling systems. Installers and designers can now count on reduced pressure drops, improved flow rates and optimized energy consumption – and forget the problems of press fittings!

The opinion of those who have experienced the difference is crucial: choose to invest in the future of plumbing systems with Aquatechnik.
